The Company commenced its first major development in Hong Kong, Taikoo Shing, including landscaped areas for public use – one of the first “Garden Estates” in the city.
The flourishing banyan tree is perhaps the “world’s most expensive tree”. Believed to have been planted in 1870, it was preserved with at the cost of HK$26 million during the construction of Pacific Place.
Sir Adrian Swire formally set out the Company’s sustainable development commitment in a letter to staff.
Helped establish the Building Environmental Assessment Method (BEAM) Steering Committee, raising building standards across the industry.
Lincoln House in Taikoo Place became the first newly-built office building to achieve a HK-BEAM “Excellent” rating.
Established our volunteer initiative, the Community Ambassador Programme, to support local communities through activities focused on the environment and sustainability.
Became the first developer in Hong Kong to provide free energy audits to tenants in Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland.
Published our first Sustainable Development (SD) Report to communicate the Company’s sustainability achievements.
Established the Joint Research Centre for Building Energy Efficiency and Sustainability with Tsinghua University.
Introduced our SD Vision: “To be the leading sustainable development performer in our industry globally by 2030.” Formulated our SD 2030 Strategy to build SD capability and ensure SD considerations are integrated into every facet of our business.
Developed the Brickell City Centre with its Climate Ribbon, an innovative canopy and sunshade that creates air flow and collects rainwater, improving the microclimate.
The only company in Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland to be included in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index.
Named Global Sector Leader for Mixed Use Developments by the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB) for the first time – achieving this every year since.
Launched “The Loop”, our Sustainable Development Exhibition Centre, at Taikoo Place.
Topped the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index Series with an “AAA” rating for the first time.
Issued our first green bond, raising US$500 million to finance green projects.
Became the first real estate developer in Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland to have approved science-based targets that drive long-term decarbonisation.
First company in Hong Kong to obtain a sustainability-linked loan with an interest rate indexed against year-on-year ESG performance improvements.
Launched the Swire Properties Placemaking Academy, offering HK university students the opportunity to take the lead in planning and executing a Company community event.
Completion of One Taikoo Place – the first commercial building in Hong Kong to obtain a “triple platinum” rating with WELL, BEAM Plus and LEED Final Platinum.
INDIGO became the first mixed-used development in the world to receive a LEED EBOM Platinum rating.
